Run for a Reason

The Freep (the affectionate nickname) is our October fundraiser. Not everyone can run a marathon or travel to Detroit. We are asking you to fundraise from where you live and be part of the Freep. You can use the same signup form which will result in your personal page. The fundraising page is on GiveNGain for anyone that will fundraise GiveNGain: https://www.givengain.com/about/

We do need a minimum of 5 runners total for any of the races at the main event in Detroit. We also need 5 volunteers from the Detroit area to qualify. This is a beautiful event that expects 20,000 runners. The marathon runners should bring passports because you will run across the bridge into Canada and back. If you will run, trot or walk for us you sign up on the Marathon page first where there are many events that might interest you or match your abilities.

If you are running any of the runs we are sure you want to tell everybody and send them your page. GiveNGain will accept donations for us through the end of November. We can start fundraising right away!

About the Detroit Free Press Marathon

The Detroit Free Press Marathon supports local and national charitable organizations by providing them the opportunity to use our world-class event to increase awareness and raise funds through our charity partner program, Run for a Reason. Over our 45-year history, charities have raised more than $25 million for a variety of causes.

The Run for a Reason Charity program allows charities to recruit engaged running and volunteer teams, provide training programs, be a part of the Detroit Free Press Marathon running community and support fundraising. Charities are not required to prepay for registrations but rather to recruit charity participants to become registered runners in a variety of events. Runners will register themselves for a Marathon weekend event and have the option to immediately start a fundraiser on our preferred platform, GivenGain. All fundraising by runners and volunteers goes directly to your charity.
